This year is the first year in a long time that I might have more free time and headspace to read. I used to love reading, but the mental and emotional business of being a graduate student left little time for it.
I knew I wanted to get back into reading more this year, and I hovered around setting a goal. I didn't know what number of books would be reasonable and a bit of a stretch. I went back and forth.
Finally, I decided that rather than setting a goal for the number of books I wanted to read, I'd set a goal for the types of books I'd read.
I knew I wanted to read more diverse authors. I knew I wanted to learn about topics that are important. I also knew I'd read some of my favorite and familiar topics, and wanted those to count, so they're on the list, too. For some categories, I thought about specific books I wanted to read, and created a category for them.
I typed out a long list, made a little chart where I can check off categories and record the title I read, and we're a go!
I know it's almost a month into the year, but I'm so excited to learn about new topics and old topics from old voices and new voices.
